Barley, yes, for the beer at least.<br /><br />Mining -- colonial New England relied on bog iron, from what I've read. It's known for quarries, but mining not so much. Problem with quarries is transportation, of course... <br /><br />Preservation is the problem with the food products, as I see it. Unless they've got a solid supply of salt, smoking is the best option. Maybe sun-drying for veggies.
